Weekly Verse - March 12th

Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."

This Friday, March 17th, is St. Patrick's day. This holiday is often associated with the word "luck". The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines luck as "favouring chance or success".

People often blame good things that happen to them on "luck", and bad things that happen to them on "bad luck". But for those who love God, our verse says, all things work together for good. God can and does bring about good through circumstances that we may call "unlucky". Not only that, but God also often blesses us through good circumstances. We can trust that all will be well when God is working His purpose in our lives. St. Patrick himself underwent some very hard trials early in his life, but through him, God worked to evangelize a murderous, superstitious country: Ireland.

So next time you are tempted to call a situation "lucky" or "unlucky", why not praise God that He is working all things together for good? We are not lucky through random circumstances, but rather, blessed by a loving Father who is working His perfect purpose in us.
